Set in 2020, the solo campaign puts players in the role of Recker, a member of an elite U.S. special ops unit called Tombstone. Alongside your team Sergeant Dunn, Irish, medic Pac, and Ruger you’ll embark on a high-stakes mission to rescue VIPs held captive in Shanghai, against the backdrop of escalating tensions between Russia, China, and the United States. The situation spirals into a global conflict, making your mission all the more perilous. Notably, Irish is voiced by Michael K. Williams, known for his role as Omar Little in The Wire.

The campaign takes players through a variety of dynamic and immersive environments, with missions featuring intense combat sequences, vehicle-based action, and cinematic moments like fleeing from helicopters. While the game provides some opportunities to customize your loadout and gives a sense of freedom, it largely follows a linear, scripted path. The tactical element of the gameplay is limited to issuing basic attack commands to your squadmates.

In multiplayer, one of the key features is the return of the commander role, which was previously seen in Battlefield 2142.
