Gameplay
In Far Cry 6, you step into the shoes of Dani Rojas, a guerilla fighter determined to topple the oppressive regime of Anton Castillo. With unconventional tactics and makeshift weaponry, players must fight to free their country from the dictator’s control, all while being monitored by Castillo and his son, Diego.
The story unfolds in Yara, a fictional tropical nation inspired by Cuba. Castillo is on a mission to restore the nation to its former glory from fifty years ago, when his father ruled. He is willing to go to any lengths, even at the expense of the people, to achieve his vision. Meanwhile, Castillo is grooming his 13-year-old son, Diego, to take over his legacy. On the opposing side, you play as Dani Rojas, a resistance fighter—either male or female—aiming to overthrow Castillo’s regime through a combination of guerrilla warfare and protests in Yara’s capital, Esperanza.
From the outset, players choose Dani’s gender, and the action is experienced from a first-person perspective (FPP). The game presents an expansive open world to explore, whether on foot, in various vehicles, or on horseback. Unlike previous entries in the series, Far Cry 6 introduces a bustling metropolis, Esperanza, alongside the familiar wilderness settings like jungles and small villages.
The narrative progresses through story-driven missions, while a variety of optional side quests and activities enrich the experience. Along the way, players face off against Castillo’s loyal troops, utilizing an array of weapons—from melee tools to a variety of pistols, rifles, and shotguns. The guerrilla fighters also adapt and customize these weapons using everyday items, such as attaching scopes fashioned from sardine cans.
